While there has yet to be any confirmation I know of outside of blogs, it appears that Condoleeza Rice spent her Wednesday spending several thousand dollars on shoes in downtown Manhattan. I first heard about this on http://www.thismodernworld.com/ which I read on a daily+ basis. Reading about the Bush administration's response to the situation in New Orleans (even down to the director of FEMA) is outrage-inducing. I know

When I was visiting her last month,
diatom yelled at me for wanting to fry eggs in olive oil. Clearly, she is not sufficiently impressed by the already-well-known health benefits. Well, I saw this on Google News the other day, and it seems that olive oil is even more awesome than previously known. So there! Olive oil rocks!

vorpalbla has already mentioned something along these lines, but I think it bears repeating: it doesn't matter what your political leanings are, everyone should be angrily demanding answers (and accountability) from our leaders. After 9/11/2001, they supposedly did all this governmental reorganization and planning for another attack on the U.S. Well, we had advance warning of hurricane Katrina, and it was still 2 days after New Orleans was hit before anything was done. What would we do if there were another attack, with no warning? I love this country and the principles it was built on. I don't want to think that the answer to that question is "we'd be screwed."

Meanwhile, I have 10 of a dozen eggs sitting in my fridge, with very little idea of how I'm going to eat them before they go bad.
